Aquarian New Moon ~ January 25th 2020
New Moon 25th January AEST 08:42am
The New Moon in Aquarius today is an important new beginning and release on subtle yet essential levels. Here in the SE of Australia it felt like the healing balm we’ve been waiting for after the horrendous weeks of bushfires (some still burning).
The soft yielding of Pisces rising, with the Path of Fortune conjunction, bring a sense of natural flow and connectedness. Pisces and Neptune are the embodiment of compassion and empathy. Venus conjunct Neptune, sextile to Jupiter and soften the square to Mars and the big Saturn Pluto conjunction feels less burdensome, rendering us with another dimension of interaction, a non-verbal, non-judgmental acceptance of what is, and the heart-opening possibilities abound.
We also have Chiron and Lilith still in conjunction from the Full Moon two weeks ago, which means that the dark feminine is revealing her old wounds, bringing them up to be held and healed. We are in such profoundly important times, the reality we’ve all been ‘banking’ on is disassembling itself, unravelling and opening us to the possibilities of these higher frequencies available to life on planet Earth currently.
This New Moon create a ritual around bringing your love and compassion to our Mother Earth, embrace her dark densities, allow them to be infiltrated with unconditional Love, channel the Light of consciousness and spirit from the highest level of your being into the great big heart of our Mother, Gaia.
Michael Meade's article
In the wake of the enormous storms, raging fires and growing climate crises of the past year there has been a surge of eulogies for the earth. While lamenting the loss of species and breakdown of eco-systems makes sense, a eulogy is not simply a “speech in praise of one who has died.” The old Greek word eulogia means "to praise, speak well of, or bless” the living or the dead. When it comes to the earth, it may be of increasing importance that we find ways to offer praise and blessings, rather than simply write obituaries for the planet.
The danger is not only that environmental systems collapse, but also that before we reach the point of complete disaster, human imagination fails to function and we fall out of the living story of the world. Stories are an ancient method of adding presence to the world, a way of “speaking well” while continuing to learn about the mystery and wonder of life on earth. The stories we tell affect the levels of understanding and feelings for life that we have.
Most current ideas of the future tend to be not just gloomy, but fatalistic. Scientific views of the climate crisis predict impending doom and modern cultures seems to lack a meaningful response. It is not simply that we need a better world than we have now; but also that we need a better world view and deeper story of interconnectedness than we now have.
The ecological damage may turn out to be greater than science has so far uncovered. Yet, it is also possible that the earth’s capacity to renew and restore life is greater than science can perceive. In reducing the world to what we can measure we lose all that is immeasurable and transformative about life. The story of the earth has always been a tale of life, death and renewal. As archetypal mother, the earth has always served both as tomb and womb, the ancient burial ground as well as the ever renewing ground of being.
Certain rites of passage require that everything seem to be upside down, devoid of meaning or about to end before genuine transformation can occur. This time of climate crisis and cultural collapse calls for a metamorphosis that transforms the fundamental relationship between human culture and the earth.
In many ancient traditions the year and the world were intertwined. The advent of a New Year renewed time, but also restored the potential of the living earth. The world was known to renew itself all the time in the secrecy of forests, in the mystery of beehives, and also in the hearts of those who commit fully to life. Like the sun inexorably returning from the darkest point of the year, something deeply regenerative resides within the earth and in the depths of imagination found inside the human heart.
An old idea suggests that a person is praying whenever they are thinking of something greater than themselves. May this be a year of thinking of and praying for the earth. May it be the year for speaking well and blessing, for restoring and re-storying the earth.
Wishing you a blessed and soulful New Year.
The last Saturn Pluto conjunction in Capricorn was in January 1518 when the
Reformation happened which changed the Western world in ways still reverberating
to this day. It was the time of Martin Luther and the beginning of the
The Saturn Pluto conjunction and Gemini Full Moon
The most important feature of these astrological times we are in right now is the Saturn Pluto conjunction, which takes place from January 6th to 13th 2020, and in exact conjunction on January 11th at 22º Capricorn.
We have been feeling the effects of this on a global scale for several years. Most agree that the world as we know it is unravelling, and has especially been showing up in established fiscal and political organisations falling down, starting with Enron (which was formed a few years after the last Saturn Pluto conjunction in1982) and crashed in November 2002 with the last Saturn Pluto opposition in Gemini/Sagittarius.
In Australia currently, our oldest bank, Westpac is being scrutinised for corruption and corporate crime.
The Saturn Pluto cycle is between thirty-seven and thirty-eight years, and when you trace its path through global events you will find that it so often has to do with re-alignments of power and who holds the keys to resources.
I recommend this article by Maurice Fernandez if you would like more details.
Fundamentally Saturn and Pluto together in any formation are going to be about a profound transformation of the structures and frameworks of our civilisation.
The Capricorn element just amplifies the fact that these structures which were built for the conservation, safety and longevity of societies, and are showing signs of being out-of-date with the big shifts of values we’ve been experiencing as Uranus enters Taurus and the dissolving of belief systems, from Neptune in Pisces.
The full moon chart below is Melbourne, Australia and applies to the South East of Australia (AUEST)
The Full Moon axis takes place in the second and eighth houses, the houses of values, resources, outer material and inner security as well as transformation. These issues happen on an individual level as well as a mundane or global level. The Saturn Pluto conjunction is in the ninth house and with the South Node (aka Dragon’s Tail) Venus, Ceres and Jupiter. I have written quite a lot about the fact that this important conjunction is so close to the South Node.
The South Node is the repository for lessons learnt in previous life-times, the pathways in our DNA well beaten into the habitual behaviours and responses we have to our current environment. In the past we have very quickly drawn our swords on each other if our territory, resources or communities were under threat. This is still happening on a very large scale, but what is different now is that we have two trajectories which could threaten all life on Earth, if we blind ourselves to the realities of our times as they are now by allowing our primal instincts to rule. The threat of nuclear war which could also annihilate life on Earth, and is a major possibility if we just follow these old instincts of our reptile brains.
We need to attend to our home, planet Earth, as the Climate Change emergency unfolds much more quickly than even scientists had predicted. Our survival on both fronts is at stake, so it is not business as usual, which is what the enduring steady and tenacious qualities of Capricorn have delivered to us, enabling us to build our current societal and political infrastructures so expeditiously.
The Saturn Pluto cycle often shows up with natural disasters and there seem to have been many , more than usual in the last ten years. And now we are witnesses to the White Island Volcano event still being revealed to us in the news, as I write. The massive devastation of fires happening all over the planet in places and at times in the year unprecedented.
These are all signs of these huge and transformational changes happening, confronting all of us with not only our survival but all life on Earth.
In this Full Moon chart the hardness of the Saturn Pluto conjunction is softened a little by the presence of Ceres and Venus. Two strong feminine elements, those of reconciliation, aesthetics, love and nourishment. In the breaking down of patriarchal infrastructures perhaps we are being given a brief respite. Important also for the month of December is that Jupiter has also just entered Capricorn after spending the last year in its home sign Sagittarius where we could dream big and expand our ideals, and now in Capricorn a time to get practical and implement those ideals. Jupiter is expansive and always truth-seeking, so bringing light into the closed structures within the power systems which have become secretive, corrupt and self-serving.
We have the opportunity with Jupiter arriving into the conjunction to build a better, more sustainable and long lasting world where long term solutions to today's big challenges will deliver a world of more equality and grace.
Uranus is inconjunct or quincunx Mercury which gives us the ability to adjust to new and innovative ways of thinking about things, also helpful.
And on another personal level the Saturn/Pluto/Venus conjunction in Capricorn is an opportunity for you to question some of the ways you operate in relation to others. Are you following a formula, or are you considering your own way of bringing yourself forward that suits who you are truly, and not how you’ve been programmed to fit in to the status quo. Are you bringing your real values to your relationships?
'That which does not kill us makes us stronger. '
Wishing for Peace on Earth and Good Will to all Beings.

Virgo New Moon August 30th 2019
Tomorrow evening’s New Moon at AEST 8:35pm
has predominantly Virgo flavours to it with a so-called Stellium (more than five planets) in Virgo. Mercury, Juno (an Asteroid) Moon, Sun, Mars, all fall in the fifth house of creativity and self-expression and Venus is in the Sixth, of work and health.
The main point though is this strong Virgo energy: a manifestation of idealism ( also with the Jupiter/ Neptune square) through simple practical action, expressed outwardly.
They are all trine Uranus which means there can be a departure from the tried-and-true, there can be an evolutionary break away from time-tested or conventional ways of doing things.
This streaming of ideology into practical and direct actions is supported by the Aries ascendant with the Path of Fortune rising, and trine Jupiter.
The Rune I pulled for this New Moon is Inguz - ‘the completion of beginnings and the ‘emergence from a closed , chrysalis state. All things change and we cannot live permanently amid obstructions’ ( from the Book of Runes by Ralph Blum) It is also the rune of fertility.
Meanwhile in the background we are still in the throes of the Saturn South Node conjunction, as it moves closer to Pluto in Capricorn. These massive encounters we’re having right now with authoritarian regimes in Brazil, with Jair Bolsonaro controlling the Amazon disaster which will affect the whole world; the UK with Boris Johnson closing down the parliament so that his trajectory for Brexit cannot be obstructed; the fight for democracy in Hong Kong, as China bears down on it, trying to break its spirit of independence, and these are just the ones we’re seeing in the headlines!
Chiron is also in conjunction with the ascendant, but in the twelfth house, more hidden, but still a player in all these events. The need to feel the sorrow and grief and partake in a collective prayer and healing for our beautiful planet, it’s so easy to feel paralysed by overwhelm at the moment.
Take good care 🙏🏼💜
Solar Eclipse 3rd July 2019
New Moon/Solar Eclipse 5:15am (AEST) 3rd July 2019
The Solar Eclipse on Wednesday is the first of an eclipse cycle, with a Lunar Eclipse happening on July 17th (more about that soon).
The most striking thing about both these eclipses is that they will magnify the incumbent Cancer/Capricorn ‘tunnel’ that’s been going on for months between the Saturn/Pluto conjunction opposing the North Node.
The tension between the old dying domain of the South Node: the crumbling of attitudes and infrastructures based on outdated and dysfunctional patriarchal values of every- man-for-himself, the vast gap of inequality and the new world of Unity, sustainability and cooperation, and what people are calling 5th Dimensional consciousness, or what Eckhart Tolle called ‘The New Earth’.
This Solar Eclipse is made more tangible because with the addition of Mars and Mercury, the disruptive frequencies are brought onto a more day-to-day realm.
Mars has just moved into Leo, and is much more effective and fast moving in a fire sign than in a water sign like Cancer where it has to negotiate with the emotional currents and shifting needs. Mercury in the configuration pushes the whole pattern out into a clear field of communication, a much more directive way of moving forward now that all these issues are coming out into the mainstream media. And as I sit here writing I am reminded how I read today that at the G20 conference although cooperation for the trade wars wasn’t reached, at least there’s a truce. So things are moving out into the open where at least they can be aired and negotiated.
The New Moon sitting so closely to the North Node bodes well too.
The North Node shows us how we can move forward into the future, how we can focus our energy on moving into the best expression of Cancer which is kindness and taking care of one another and our home, planet Earth, rather than being trapped in the quagmire of the South Node, the shadow side of Capricorn: ruthless ambition and the exploitation of resources purely for the sake of winning rather than the even distribution for all to benefit from.
Saturn is exactly conjunct the South Node highlighting the vulnerabilities of that competitive ego driven imperative. Saturn demands reality checks about survival and sustainability. It encourages us to streamline and cull back to only what is needed. This austerity can serve us well at this time. Do you really need three televisions? Do you really need your fortieth pair of shoes? Do you really need more possessions, more baggage?
This is a real questioning of our material values especially for the Eastern States of Australia, where the New Moon sits in the second house (see chart below). Pluto is also exactly conjunct the Vertex, aka known as the ‘electrical ascendant’ and a sense that things are out of our hands on a personal level, thus a powerful transformational force to go with rather than against.
Many have already been feeling some of these energies, Eclipses can usually be felt months before they actually occur and their effects resonate for months afterwards.
Taurus New Moon ~ the beginning of
(ceramic bowl by Peta van Rood)
The New Moon in Virgo is time to ground the dreams you allowed yourself to dwell in over the last big eclipse cycle. Hopefully during the Pisces full moon, on September 6th , a time was set aside for refining the visions, for fine-tuning the palaces and castles of your imagination.
Now you can once again hone these frequencies so that they can find an earthy practical place in your everyday life, for these higher vibrations to bring you tangible actions and results. The Virgo new moon opposite Chiron means you can heal any doubts or self-sabotage patterns by feeling into them, welcoming and holding, just as you would an insecure child, just gently and slowly.
Neptune's placement means you can use the subtle transformational qualities of the element water, or/and the music of stringed instruments, to soothe and coax the self-doubt out into the light, you can ask yourself the question: "is this true?" And your knowing will show you that it is not real. The 'thank-the-lord' energy of the Uranus opposing Jupiter brings that 'ahaaah' moment.
They can be indicators of important events in our lives, ending periods of inertia or stagnation.
As I write this, the energy of tomorrow morning’s Lunar eclipse is building momentum. Astrologers everywhere are excited about this particular eclipse cycle. Especially the Solar eclipse happening on August 22nd is going to be the first eclipse to be visible throughout the US for nearly a hundred years. It seems to me that this could be an opportunity to bring some of the disparate forces that are tearing that country apart at present into some unity. There are some good planetary configurations for that, which I’ll talk about later.
I will start my analysis of the partial Lunar Eclipse, which down here in South Eastern Australia, will occur at 4:20 am on the morning of the 8th August. The most outstanding planetary configuration I see in the chart for this eclipse is the last square of Jupiter in Libra and Pluto Capricorn, whom have been doing a square dance since November 2016. This is their third and final connection, and the third hit is usually the most manifest.
On a mundane level we have seen huge plays of power and politics dominating important questions and issues which have to do with our ubiquitous survival, territory and environmental issues. In an ideal world these important questions would be addressed under a bipartisan flag for all-life-on-earth, but instead we’ve seen the primal forces of our amygdala’s at work, in the form of power grabs and bullying threats which could spell disaster if we don’t bring our neo-cortex’s (rational thinking) into play very quickly.
The potential here is that this last hit of the Jupiter and Pluto square conjoined with the nature of this Lunar eclipse, could move us into an evolutionary trajectory and quantum leap into a consciousness that shows us just how absurd it is that we pit ourselves against each other in power struggles, when we could be collaborating for the purpose of forming the new world. (the positive frequencies of Jupiter and Pluto, and the Aquarian age).
The Lunar eclipse energy brings so much up from our emotional bodies, the cellular memories from pre-birth, early childhood and even ancestral patterns.
Especially with the Square from Chiron to the eclipse ascendant, which reveals old wounds and scars in need of some attention. The softening energy of Venus in the first house could bring a creative balance and will for balance and peace.
And luckily Mars conjunct the Sun and trine Saturn (orderly yet natural and dynamic action), could be the push we need to awaken into the universal co-creative species we have the potential to become in this Aquarian age, with the ruler of Aquarius, Uranus, stationed retrograde.
The energy of the planets in our solar system affects all of us at some level, but the fixed signs Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus, and if you were born on around 7-8th of August, November, February or May, you will feel this in your life as a shake-up towards more honesty and vitality, but you may need to release and let go of belief systems or physical clutter for this to make the space needed for such a change. Lunar eclipses are helpful for releasing and letting go, and I recommend allowing the frequencies to motivate you towards more simplicity in your life.
It is interesting that Uranus is stationing to go retrograde a few days ago at 28 degrees Aries (where it will stay until September 10th).
It will be sextile the ascendant (27ªGemini) of the Lunar Eclipse (Aug 8th) and trine the Solar Eclipse, (Aug 22nd). Both so-called soft aspects, which means that change can happen effortlessly, but on the down side it can also mean that people don’t feel the urgency of the collective wake-up call and won’t necessarily be aware of, or facilitate and make room for the change that is so much the essence of the current zeitgeist, with its Aquarian overtones.
This eclipse cycle is crowned by the much anticipated Solar eclipse AUEST 4:31am, August 22nd. One of the reasons this has been getting so much attention is because it will be seen all over the United States as a total eclipse, for the first time since June 8th 1918. Some American astrologers are calling it ‘The American eclipse’, and are hoping so much that it is a sign of changes which will bring them together for more positive and fairer outcomes.
This Solar Eclipse develops the Lunar eclipse, bringing more intensity with the stellium of planets in Leo. Both eclipses take place in 2nd to 8th house circumstances, which are to do with physical values and deeper transformational concerns of the Soul, as well as important issues about our standing with mother Earth. What is very different from the Lunar eclipse, is the relationship of the Moon’s nodes or Dragon’s tail and head with the Sun/Moon as well as with Venus.
When talking about the Moon’s Nodes one is talking about the Soul’s memory, the point of growth. And with Venus in an exact semi-sextile, the emphasis can be on the Soul’s relationships to love and material wellbeing. There could be a reconciliation amongst us all, between each other and our mother Earth.
As well as this, Chiron forms a quincunx to the Sun and Moon, offering the deepest compassion and possibilities for empathy and growth and a big healing can take place in some of our most deeply felt domains of the soul. (8th house).
I remain an optimist.
