Mercury went retrograde (read more about Mercury retro here) for the last time this year on the morning of the 6th October, and will go direct again on 26th October.
However, despite the internalised awareness of Mercury retrograde, in October things seem to be heating up for the next Uranus/Pluto square.
I’ve drawn the chart for the total Lunar eclipse, which happens on Wednesday here in Melbourne at 9:55pm on 8th October. The most powerful influence at first glance of the chart, is that Uranus is conjunct the Aries moon, and I feel this is a sort of heads-up for the up-and-coming Uranus/Square in late November. (Especially since the Sun and Moon are also square Pluto). The Sun is conjunct Venus (the ruler of Libra), the planet of beauty, balance relationships and Love. Expect some stirrings and/or upheavals in your relationships, probably especially where you relate to another on an emotional level.
Uranus always brings awakenings, whether they come in the form of unexpected events or circumstances, sudden changes, arrivals, departures, and new thought patterns and processes, inventions and innovations. Uranus is the planet of excitement, and in its rulership of Aquarius, it electrifies the senses; enthusiasm and neurological pathways are lit up with innovative new directions and concepts. Expect the unexpected!
The Lunar Eclipse is also aligned quite closely to the Moon’s North and South Nodes, also known as the Dragon’s head and tail. The asteroid Vesta (about sacrifice and commitment) is also making a hard aspect to both of them (semi-square and sesquiquatrate). The Moon’s nodes have to do with soul’s memory and deeply embedded belief systems. Lunar eclipses are about letting go of things from the past, purging the memory (of the mind and on a cellular level) of thoughts, concepts and beliefs which no longer serve you. With Uranus, Vesta and Venus so close by, truths will surface in your closer relationships, and some compromises might need to be reached to accommodate the changes. Soul connections will need extra listening time, and empathy will bring balance and peace.
I will write about the partial Solar Eclipse in Scorpio on 24th October (Melbourne time) in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned.
Happy New Year!
May all your dreams be manifested
We’re in for a rapidly shifting and turbulent or exciting 2014, which gets its catalyst to begin the roller coaster ride on 1st January with the Capricorn new moon, the year’s first Supermoon, and a trigger point for the revolutionary Uranus/Pluto trajectory we find ourselves part of until 2015.
The new moon in Capricorn is accompanied by Mercury and Pluto as one of the corners of a Cardinal grand cross of: Pluto in Capricorn, Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Cancer and Mars in Aries. (very closely associated to each other until January 15th)
The Cardinal signs are about action and moving forward, and Capricorn being the Earth sign in this quadrant is about manifesting. Traditionally depicted as the goat with a fish’s tail, climbing one-step-at-a-time up the mountain, the fish’s tail keeping it immersed in the collective psyche and dreaming, the ‘ocean’ of our collective consciousness. Capricorns are not impulsive like Aries, they act out of their knowing, closely weaving their vision with practical realities.
This new moon is really about resetting your intentions, and following through with actions based on your core values. Venus, which is about our values, relationships to one another, as well as the creative process of bringing things together, went retrograde in Capricorn December 21st, heralding a time for us to go within and examine what our own values are, aside from how we’ve been conditioned or influenced by our peers and times. When re-setting your intentions take into account where you are now in your life, leave behind a self-image you may have constructed for yourself in the past, and look plainly and truthfully at your present life. Capricorn’s ruler, Saturn is in still Scorpio, paring back what is unnecessary or ephemeral.
Saturn austere in his approach to reality, and with this powerful Cardinal grand cross in play for the first two weeks of 2014, when traditionally people are trying to keep to their New Year’s resolutions, is the time to be realistic about what you want, what role you can contribute to the New World which employs your greatest talents and skills. Add to this mix the Mercury and Pluto conjunction to the new moon, and you get the opportunity to get a mental picture of how things can be, when you discard the superfluous or non-functional, those ideas you had which are now maybe obsolete. Keep things simple and straight. Write a list of your priorities, so as to inform your values. Allow Pluto to help you face hidden belief systems you may have been living from which no longer serve you.
Let go to the massive shift in consciousness that is happening to life on Earth. Trust yourself, the voice of your instincts, Capricorn is straight and conservative, and will not suffer fools.
So many of the institutions and established protocols our civilization has relied on for thousands of years to prop up the infra-structure of the way we ‘do business’ are falling apart and losing credibility, we have to be able to trust ourselves, and that’s why an examination of your core values based on instinctive knowledge now, will support your intentions for 2014.
Joyful Sagittarius! The gift to us all with its natives expansive and philanthropic overview and sense of humour. However, at this time some Sagittarians will be feeling more sensitive and emotionally attuned than usual, and instead of their usual sweeping flights of delights, they could be feeling more internal and family orientated. This is because their ruling planet Jupiter is retrograde in Cancer and trine to Saturn in Scorpio. There's help with the internal work here, the healing of old fears, and a sense of how vast inner life can be.
The last time it was here was 2001, and as everyone remembers the world changed with 9/11. For a moment it looked like the outpouring of love and community could really change things. I think it did change people's attitude about how essential community is.
Mercury is in Scorpio as I write and will fly through Sagittarius only to enter Capricorn on Christmas day 25th December, so there's more Soul searching coming up, as Venus retrogrades (21st December) in Capricorn and stays in that sign until 5th March 2014. Venus in Capricorn is cautious and circumspect, unlikely to follow impulses, especially when she's retrograde. Mars will be entering Libra on 8th December, and make some strong aspects to Venus (ruler of Libra) early next year. (I will write more about that soon). This shows that relationships will need some adjustments, as people feel the need to express boundaries.
Uranus in Aries has been retrograde for the last five months and goes direct this month. Uranus is the awakener and rebel which is with its 'mate' Pluto shaking up our whole system at present. (see article) But in retrograde it had its kid gloves on. Now things are going to start moving again, as it goes direct unlocking the truth, setting us free; and then it squares Mars (Christmas day) and Pluto which is potentially a bit of powder keg situation, but I believe the influence of Libra, the peace lover and diplomat, and the trine to Saturn in Scorpio could keep things from exploding, and pave the way for cooperation, and deep healing.

The full Moon (Super Moon June 23rd) brought with it the blessings Mercury and Venus conjunction in Cancer, making an harmonious trine aspect to the Moon in Scorpio.
This is a fine time for communication, writings and readings, where the slick messenger Mercury gets to fly with his heart open, Venus at his side. The Scorpio moon deepens the feelings into transformational healing frequencies, any rocks and hard places within your intimate relationships with loved ones and within your family can be gently spoken about, with the grace of Venus and Mercury in Cancer, trine the Scorpio Moon.
Could be that this brings much needed relief after the hectic time in the media, the onslaught and overload of information in the last few days with Jupiter conjunct the Sun in Gemini.
The sweetness of heartfelt feelings emanating from the Mercury and Venus conjunction in Cancer, followed closely by the Sun entering Cancer on the 26th of June, allows us to dwell and even navigate through any density of grievance using our feelings and intuition as a salve, into the smaller watery Grand Trine triggered by the Cancer Sun forming its trines to Neptune and Chiron in Pisces and Saturn in Scorpio. Mercury will station on that day before its retrograde period in Cancer, giving us the space to go inside, circumnavigating the busi-ness of our minds and paving the way for the larger and rarer Grand Trine forming between Jupiter, & Lilith in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces, throughout the 17th & 18th July. We'll have already been feeling our feelings, and hopefully even begun processing them (Lilith, Saturn, Neptune), and so be more available to the possibilities this large Watery Grand Trine can offer us.
Trines are the harmonious relationship which occurs when planets are 'trine' to each other, a so-called soft aspect of 120º (a third of the 360º Zodiac circle). A Grand trine is when the three corners of the triangle (trine) are each inhabited by a planet or point. In a natal chart it reveals where a person may have enormous natural talent that they take for granted.
However, in the so-called mundane chart (which is the configuration that affects all beings and events on Earth) it can be time when resolutions take place, a time of reconciliation. Hopefully, the news about the Taliban coming to the table to talk about peace will lead to better outcomes for Afganistan.
And speaking of hectic times, the revolutionary/evolutionary square of fiery Uranus in Aries and retrograde Pluto in the-status-quo-Capricorn continues to wield its power with not only Turkey in uproar, but the streets of Brazil filled with demonstrators wanting a better deal, equality and justice their governing bodies working for them instead of against them. The civil war in Syria, the people rising up in Greece and revelations about whistle blower Edward Snowden unearthing extensive NSA data mining operations even on citizens of the US, all are about the hugely changing world we're living in. The truth is coming out.
Aries New Moon ~ 7:35pm EST 10th April
After their cozy sojourn with the Sun as it travelled through the middle degrees of Aries last week, Venus and Mars are now slowly moving into their separate rhythms. On the night of the new Moon, will start their individual dialogues with Lilith (the Dark Moon) for a day or so. People were telling me over the last week that even though it was supposed to be Autumn, they were feeling like it was Spring: frisky…that’s Venus conjunct Mars in Aries for you! Quite a sexual combo…which can also be ‘channeled’ as charmingly energetic, or zestily dynamic, or just wanting to dance and express delight and love through the body..
And now Lilith is sorting them both out, reminding them that feminine energy must be deeply respected and revered so that our Souls can experience the depths of our experiences here on our beautiful Mother Gaia. It can’t just be the froth ‘n foam of a kind of petulant sexiness this relationship towards the feminine, there must be a more profound connection to really ground and balance us in our bodies. And the New Moon wants us to reflect inwardly, so it is a perfect time to contemplate the polarities in ourselves, and whether we allow the deeper feminine in our natures to be nourished enough by the stillness of Earth.
Pluto is sextile Chiron and square the Moon, so the assistance is there, should you choose, to go in, and savor the beauty of the dark feminine, and allow any resistance or fear to move and vibrate, thus deepening your own connection to her.
Well, I don’t know about you, but I certainly felt the Sun going into Aries a few days ago (20th March). It was rather like spending time in a dreamy forest of the imagination (Pisces), only to be woken up by the direct and fiery gaze of a warrior telling me to get moving! A jolt of directive energy and the willingness to surrender can now transport us into the next chapter of our lives.
As I sit here and write the Moon is in Virgo (March 25) Venus, Mars and Uranus accompany the Sun on its Aries path. So it is a productive time, Earth and Fire combinations get things done.
The Sun, Venus and Mars are all approaching a conjunction with Uranus in Aries on 28th March, which should bring a few days of unexpectedly stimulating excitement within relationships and creative endeavors. Allow the light of Uranus’ energy to rouse you and energize new creative ideas or new ways of relating.
On Saturday (23rd March) while we sat down for our candle-lit Earth Hour dinner, Mars was conjunct Uranus, and people reported that they could feel the vibrant electrical energy of this stimulating conjunction, a quickening and the feeling of being fully present in the NOW. And then there were those who let off some steam, felt irritable, complaining about how badly people drive these days, or how their internet connection kept faltering when they were trying to do their banking.
The most important event this month is that Saturn goes retrograde on April 1, and won’t be going forward again until July 8th. Any unfinished business gets to go through the wringer again, the scrutinizing Saturn glance which sees through any flimsy or unsustainable structures, practices or things you might be fooling yourself about. Especially with Saturn going retrograde in Scorpio! It is really best to take responsibility for what is yours. Discriminate between what you can change and what you can’t. Build on the strengths of inner discipline to create a routine within your life which will support you thoroughly, as the continuing influence from the square of Uranus and Pluto over the next few years shakes us all into being more awake and engaged with a new world. We are being pushed to throw off the shackles of outmoded belief systems, a status quo that no longer serves us as well as powerful evolutionary forces.
Saturn retrograde can assist us to look deeply into ourselves and ask: “is it true…REALly?” Saturn retrograde in Scorpio cuts to the quick, unearthing all that is superfluous or isn’t of service to the deeper truth. Saturn in Scorpio can be quite ruthless, and what better place to take that ruthlessness than into our own psyche, where we often hide from the truth or fool ourselves to protect our fragile egos.
The Waite Rider Card shown above is Nine Wands and shows someone who has been in a struggle which is giving him the foresight to prepare for the ongoing pressures of a soul's desire to grow and evolve.
Greetings astrology lovers
As I sit here and write I can still sense the pull of the full moon which happened about five hours ago in Pisces/Virgo. The gentle and yielding energy of Pisces/Virgo, which brings us all into our humility and sense of action for the common good.
Mercury is just pulling away from its conjunction to Mars in Pisces and Chiron still sitting in Pisces bringing waves of deep healing to all of us. The Mercury/Mars conjunction in Pisces has been giving us the ability to use the power of our imaginations to manifest a better world for ourselves and the collective. Pisces, the big heart-opener, the Compassionate one heals with its unconditional listening heart, our imaginations stoked by the other-wordly light of this can really have the most beautifully positive influence.
On the so-called negative side, it could be that we are more escapist than usual, avoiding issues and harboring our anger or resentment in wishy-washy quagmire of self-pity.
And yes I'm sure we all can have both those qualities within us! The challenge is to bring unconditional self-acceptance and compassion to ourselves as well as to others. And since Mars likes to be manifested physically, I recommend dancing, swimming, Yoga, Qigong or Aikido as a way to release physical energy from a cellular level, in the most Piscean way possible...ie with music, meditation or water.
Jupiter is now steadily moving forward through Gemini until the end of June when it goes into Cancer. This is such an expansive and opening time for Gemini's and Sagittarians, new vistas are opening, the horizon and beyond is revealing boundless possibilities, the challenge for Gems and Sagi's, is to stay grounded and not get overwhelmed by all the possibilities.
Saturn in Scorpio went retrograde a few days ago, which means that we need to discipline ourselves internally, and one of those discipline's is to not be self-critical. Its a good time to start some new self-improvement regime, and also a great time for de-cluttering not only our earthly possessions, but also outworn belief systems and thought patterns which no longer serve us. Saturn in Scorpio is lean and can be mean, but either way it wants us to be more streamlined in our actions.
I will certainly be de-cluttering my own household and workrooms in the coming week, as I am in the midst of moving. This article, shorter than usual, but I will write more thoughts about the luminaries and planets in the coming weeks.
