My take on the sign Aquarius
People say that all the signs have their good and bad qualities, and that one shouldn’t make qualitative statements about them. But I have to say that after studying, teaching and using Astrology as a tool for self-enquiry and development for nearly forty years, Aquarius is my favorite sign! And here is why: Aquarius is the humanitarian revolutionary who keeps all the other signs awake and on their toes. The catch phrase for Aquarius is: “I know”. This is because knowledge is a tool for the betterment of humanity, and Aquarius has an innate knowing sense.
Ruled by the planet Uranus, the planet of revolution, innovation, futuristic vision, genius (and yes, ‘madness’) Aquarius is a fixed air sign, so even though it enlightens us with enthusiasm (from the Greek enthousiasmos, to be inspired by a God) and de-light, natural intelligence and sense of adventure, it is able to powerfully concentrate and focus its energy onto a goal or outcome for the greater good of all beings. In old Astrology, before Uranus was discovered in 1781 (the same time as electricity), Saturn was the ruler of Aquarius while it co-ruled Capricorn. I believe that the taciturn economic and disciplined ways of Saturn are still in play in Aquarius. This means that all the idealism and enthusiasm is grounded in practical down-to-earth action, that doesn’t get blown away by flamboyant ego displays or corrupted by expressions of pride.
Aquarius often finds itself the ‘right face, in the right place, at the right time.’ It seems to naturally gravitate to the best situations and circumstances.
Having said all of these wonderful things about Aquarius, I have to say, that Aquarius struggles with intimacy and one-to-one relationships. It is everybody’s best friend, but is out-on-a-limb when it comes to relating to a significant other. This is because it deeply cares about the brotherhood of all mankind more than the nearest and dearests.
Ofcourse in describing an Astrological sign in this way, I am not necessarily describing people who have their Sun in Aquarius, although mostly they will be able to identify with some, if not all of these qualities. We all have all the signs in us, some of them will dominate more that others. Aquarius represents a facet of expression I find the most developed and sustainable especially as we enter into the Age of Aquarius. (more about that in another article soon)
This is an important time for the Aquarian side of life, and this is because of the ongoing square between Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn, which we will go on being part of all this year and into 2015. This is the revolution of consciousness and the breaking down of the status quo as well as many outworn belief systems and modis operandi. The violent wars and turbulent natural disasters we are witnessing and participating in have a Uranus/Pluto 'feel' about them. The fires of transformation wielding great inroads into human consciousness, opening it up for the New Earth Eckhart Tolle talks about in his great book. The Aquarian Age of Enlightenment, where we all intrinsically know we are One, all part of the living breathing organism known as life on Earth.
Heralding February is the Super new Moon on January 30th in Aquarius which you can use to allow yourself to dream in and manifest goals or outcomes you feel the most enthusiastic about.
Mercury will go retrograde on February 6th until 28th. It will go into Aquarius, a much more pragmatic place for it than the dreamy poetic Pisces, on February 14th.
The most important transit is Jupiter in Cancer opposing Pluto in Capricorn, with Venus within one degree of Pluto, on January 31st. We are still deeply questioning our values and beliefs, and there could be some secret uses and misuses of power which we become part of, or aware of in others. With our personal lives Venus is so close to this opposition, we will need to come from a place of love and receptivity, just listening quietly, instead of imposing what we think is correct through manipulation or domination. Under this transit there have to be some losses, so that gains can be made and the regeneration of the truth can be facilitated. After this Jupiter will sit on a square to Uranus until March 6th when it will also go direct and start moving through Cancer at its usual faster pace. This relationship between Jupiter and Uranus, can bring a lot of release and relief to the pressure which has been building up with the Uranus/Pluto square. Surprising situations and innovative resolutions will bring movement and change.
Spring Equinox ~ October 2013
Our Spring Equinox down here in the Southern Hemisphere coincided with the so-called ‘Harvest Moon’ late last week, so-named in the Northern Hemisphere, and associated with creation and new beginnings.
I think its safe to say, we are all sensing Spring rising up and warming the Earth, flora and fauna coming alive again after the chill of winter. Our faces lighting up with smiles and bodies relaxing into the soft warm air.
The chart for the Equinox has the moon exalted in Taurus, the nature lover, rewarded with Spring, and the sensual aromas of the warming earth and her buds of joy and new life. The Taurus Moon is opposing Saturn, North Node and Venus in Scorpio and triggers the big and rare Grand Trine who’s influence we are still experiencing. (Jupiter in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune conjunct Chiron in Pisces here’s what Melissa says ”This heavenly configuration which began to form in late June is one of the most important in our lifetime. A grand water trine is an aspect involving 3 or more planets in all 3 water signs which happens regularly. This Grand Trine is different because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime event! It involves Jupiter in Cancer (occurs once in 12 years), Saturn in Scorpio (every 30 years) and most importantly Neptune in Pisces which happens only every 164 years and is more significant because Neptune rules Pisces, so is most powerful in its own sign.”
We are still under the influence of this Grand-trine ….and the Taurus moon opposing one of its points creates a kite-pattern is a catalyst for some of the more potent karmic lessons of responsibility in relationships. The Sun in Libra certainly puts us on notice to engage in our personal relationships. And the truth is that all our relationships form pieces in the greater puzzle of humankind, and its getting more and more crucial that we find a way of living and sharing our beautiful planet peacefully, as the environmental cataclysms threaten food and water shortages; the revolutions and revolts in the Middle East, wipe out civilisations and their people, and the powerful testing of values invoked by the big Pluto/Uranus (blog) square whose transformational forces we are still subject too: huge awakenings and quickening brushing away the cobwebs of the past established status quo, jolted and shaken into a new paradigm.
This month Pluto goes direct after five months of being retrograde.
Pluto reminds us that all external annoyances “out there” are in fact internal parts of ourselves projected onto life’s outer screen. Again its about taking responsibility for this, as the mutual reception of Saturn in Pluto’s home sign of Scorpio reminds us. Responsibility: the ability to respond!
Mars went into Leo end August and will be there until 15th October, it will then move into Virgo, where it can implement in a practical way the fiery passions it may have visited whilst in Leo. It will oppose Neptune in Pisces for a few days (19th-20th Nov) which is an excellent time to move into one’s ideals, and visualise the world you dream of.
If you find yourself feeling dissipated or exhausted, spend time near the ocean, or even soaking in a pool or bath will help hold you with this transit.
Mercury in Scorpio goes retrograde on 21st October until November 11th. Its only in Western astrology really that retrograde Mercury has gained such bad press. Especially in Scorpio, you are being invited into the deep interior spaces of your psyche: dive in and take some time out, and you won’t be dogged by computers or phones going on the blink.
There is a lot of potential of healing deep old patterns, the programs we often hold on a cellular level in our bodies early in October as the quincunx of Saturn, to Uranus, and its trine to Chiron support this kind of DNA shifting.
On the 18th of October until Nov 16th we have another exact Pluto square Uranus hit, so there could be some more big movements in our institutions, as collective values keep changing and evolving.
Take good care, allow yourself to feel all the feelings, this way deep healings can happen. Get support if you have fear or anger to clear, as now is the time for big openings.
The full Moon (Super Moon June 23rd) brought with it the blessings Mercury and Venus conjunction in Cancer, making an harmonious trine aspect to the Moon in Scorpio.
This is a fine time for communication, writings and readings, where the slick messenger Mercury gets to fly with his heart open, Venus at his side. The Scorpio moon deepens the feelings into transformational healing frequencies, any rocks and hard places within your intimate relationships with loved ones and within your family can be gently spoken about, with the grace of Venus and Mercury in Cancer, trine the Scorpio Moon.
Could be that this brings much needed relief after the hectic time in the media, the onslaught and overload of information in the last few days with Jupiter conjunct the Sun in Gemini.
The sweetness of heartfelt feelings emanating from the Mercury and Venus conjunction in Cancer, followed closely by the Sun entering Cancer on the 26th of June, allows us to dwell and even navigate through any density of grievance using our feelings and intuition as a salve, into the smaller watery Grand Trine triggered by the Cancer Sun forming its trines to Neptune and Chiron in Pisces and Saturn in Scorpio. Mercury will station on that day before its retrograde period in Cancer, giving us the space to go inside, circumnavigating the busi-ness of our minds and paving the way for the larger and rarer Grand Trine forming between Jupiter, & Lilith in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces, throughout the 17th & 18th July. We'll have already been feeling our feelings, and hopefully even begun processing them (Lilith, Saturn, Neptune), and so be more available to the possibilities this large Watery Grand Trine can offer us.
Trines are the harmonious relationship which occurs when planets are 'trine' to each other, a so-called soft aspect of 120º (a third of the 360º Zodiac circle). A Grand trine is when the three corners of the triangle (trine) are each inhabited by a planet or point. In a natal chart it reveals where a person may have enormous natural talent that they take for granted.
However, in the so-called mundane chart (which is the configuration that affects all beings and events on Earth) it can be time when resolutions take place, a time of reconciliation. Hopefully, the news about the Taliban coming to the table to talk about peace will lead to better outcomes for Afganistan.
And speaking of hectic times, the revolutionary/evolutionary square of fiery Uranus in Aries and retrograde Pluto in the-status-quo-Capricorn continues to wield its power with not only Turkey in uproar, but the streets of Brazil filled with demonstrators wanting a better deal, equality and justice their governing bodies working for them instead of against them. The civil war in Syria, the people rising up in Greece and revelations about whistle blower Edward Snowden unearthing extensive NSA data mining operations even on citizens of the US, all are about the hugely changing world we're living in. The truth is coming out.
June has started on a soothing note after the intensity of our trio of eclipses (Lunar eclipse 26 May; Solar eclipse May 10th and partial Lunar eclipse May 25th).
I have seen quite a lot of fragmentation and insecurity in people coming to me for readings, and sensed that programmed self-images and conditioned parts of our belief systems really needed to be deeply questioned for their relevance on the journey ahead. It is like us needing to be in a more streamlined state for the continuing revolutionary/evolutionary square between Uranus and Pluto.
Mercury has moved into Cancer and as I write (3rd June) is closely followed by Venus, and making trines to Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces. They are heralding the way for Jupiter, as it enters into to a beautiful Water Grand Trine coming up on 16th July: the harmonious and healing relationship between Neptune in Pisces, Saturn in Scorpio and Jupiter in Cancer.
A Water Grand Trine between these three outer planets is just the salve we need to be able to move deeper into the waters of our collective consciousness and know from very Beings that we are all One. Our heightened sensitivity bringing our true feelings into consciousness; this dreamy watery grand trine, refining and tuning our intuitions, allows us to hone our Awareness as it by-passes the analytical and judging mind, this mind which separates us, not only from ourselves but from each other. It is indeed a time for grounding (Saturn) our ideals (Neptune) into manifestation, and with Jupiter’s magnificence, this is balm for our souls and exhausted fearfilled minds.
Jupiter takes around twelve months to travel through each sign, and will be in sweet, creative Cancer from June 26th 2013 until July 16th 2014. Our focus can be on home, family, tribe, community and nation. A time to nourish and protect those situations and relationships which hold us and give us a sense of belonging.
After its rollicking time through the communicative Gemini, Jupiter having been escorted into Cancer by Mercury and Venus enters into this exquisite Water Grand Trine beginning its journey through Cancer with an expanded awareness of the ‘Home’ within: ‘Home’, as they say, is where the heart is. The very same day Jupiter enters Cancer, Mercury will go retrograde and will remain so until July 20, 2013, further highlighting the internal journeying required for the Watery trine to dream its way into the collective, but not necessarily a good time to rely on the details delivered by emails, texts, tickets, roads, postal items, and schedules, just keep checking and checking again.
At the time of the Gemini New Moon (June 9th, 1:59am EST Australia) Mercury will become the other arm of a T-Square with the Uranus/Pluto square and a few days later Venus will join it (June 11-12th). This could bring more revolts and awakenings to the surface: outmoded ways of living together in our daily lives and the ways we share our precious planet and her limited resources come into question. What was barely being tolerated will become intolerable as the shackles of the old world keep on being shed in this revolutionary/evolutionary time. Hopefully the balancing and congruent Water Grand Trine will help to keep things from getting destructive, and transmute the fear and aggression into compassion and practical outcomes.
~ November is a big month this year as it contains two eclipses, the first one is a total solar eclipse and the only total eclipse this year, on November 13th. This eclipse will only be visible in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. Solar eclipses are mostly associated with disruptions. This one falls into the profound Scorpio waters where with the help of retrograde Mercury it signifies a deep shift in the collective subconscious. Mercury went retrograde (6th November), and travels backwards into Scorpio after its brief sojourn in Sagittarius, bringing our thoughts and perspectives into the depths of our current transformational processes. Mercury then goes forward again on 26th November, allowing us to integrate and understand our innermost self with more clarity and perspective, as we then become able to share and reflect upon shift we’ve made with others again.
For more information about the eclipses go to Nasa's site.
Going against the grain of the widely broadcast warnings about retrograde Mercury, I believe that in these times of information overload, Mercury going retrograde is a blessing. We need to bring more of our awareness inside ourselves, enquiring into our thoughts, belief systems and ideals. We are constantly under pressure to take in more and more external information, so that getting time to go inside and investigate our own deeper truths is a time for us to empower ourselves with more self-knowledge, and rest deeply (Scorpio) in our own nature’s.
Because of this more internally centered focus, its true that external communications can suffer from the kind of vagueness which makes for miscommunications. And because the technology we use to communicate to each other with is virtually symbiotic with our energy fields, things can go askew when the focus is not on the external passage of information.
The second eclipse in November is the penumbral Lunar eclipse which happens on the 28th November, which will mostly not be visible in Australia. This is the full moon in Gemini, and important for all the mutable signs (Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo and Pisces) as they let go of old memories and thought patterns no longer needed. Sometime deep emotional issues surface to be accepted (owned) and released. It can be a great time for processing the emotional baggage no longer needed on the journey, which will create a space for new life and vision to come in.
All of this going in while Saturn in the early degrees of Scorpio makes a watery trine to Neptune in Pisces means that this process could be about easing your deepest core ideals into manifestation, so I recommend doing a vision board or affirmations lists, only draw not from the outer side of your mind, take your awareness into the depths with honesty and commitment and this is a great month for moving forward into the new world.
