Happy New Year!
May all your dreams be manifested
We’re in for a rapidly shifting and turbulent or exciting 2014, which gets its catalyst to begin the roller coaster ride on 1st January with the Capricorn new moon, the year’s first Supermoon, and a trigger point for the revolutionary Uranus/Pluto trajectory we find ourselves part of until 2015.
The new moon in Capricorn is accompanied by Mercury and Pluto as one of the corners of a Cardinal grand cross of: Pluto in Capricorn, Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Cancer and Mars in Aries. (very closely associated to each other until January 15th)
The Cardinal signs are about action and moving forward, and Capricorn being the Earth sign in this quadrant is about manifesting. Traditionally depicted as the goat with a fish’s tail, climbing one-step-at-a-time up the mountain, the fish’s tail keeping it immersed in the collective psyche and dreaming, the ‘ocean’ of our collective consciousness. Capricorns are not impulsive like Aries, they act out of their knowing, closely weaving their vision with practical realities.
This new moon is really about resetting your intentions, and following through with actions based on your core values. Venus, which is about our values, relationships to one another, as well as the creative process of bringing things together, went retrograde in Capricorn December 21st, heralding a time for us to go within and examine what our own values are, aside from how we’ve been conditioned or influenced by our peers and times. When re-setting your intentions take into account where you are now in your life, leave behind a self-image you may have constructed for yourself in the past, and look plainly and truthfully at your present life. Capricorn’s ruler, Saturn is in still Scorpio, paring back what is unnecessary or ephemeral.
Saturn austere in his approach to reality, and with this powerful Cardinal grand cross in play for the first two weeks of 2014, when traditionally people are trying to keep to their New Year’s resolutions, is the time to be realistic about what you want, what role you can contribute to the New World which employs your greatest talents and skills. Add to this mix the Mercury and Pluto conjunction to the new moon, and you get the opportunity to get a mental picture of how things can be, when you discard the superfluous or non-functional, those ideas you had which are now maybe obsolete. Keep things simple and straight. Write a list of your priorities, so as to inform your values. Allow Pluto to help you face hidden belief systems you may have been living from which no longer serve you.
Let go to the massive shift in consciousness that is happening to life on Earth. Trust yourself, the voice of your instincts, Capricorn is straight and conservative, and will not suffer fools.
So many of the institutions and established protocols our civilization has relied on for thousands of years to prop up the infra-structure of the way we ‘do business’ are falling apart and losing credibility, we have to be able to trust ourselves, and that’s why an examination of your core values based on instinctive knowledge now, will support your intentions for 2014.
Joyful Sagittarius! The gift to us all with its natives expansive and philanthropic overview and sense of humour. However, at this time some Sagittarians will be feeling more sensitive and emotionally attuned than usual, and instead of their usual sweeping flights of delights, they could be feeling more internal and family orientated. This is because their ruling planet Jupiter is retrograde in Cancer and trine to Saturn in Scorpio. There's help with the internal work here, the healing of old fears, and a sense of how vast inner life can be.
The last time it was here was 2001, and as everyone remembers the world changed with 9/11. For a moment it looked like the outpouring of love and community could really change things. I think it did change people's attitude about how essential community is.
Mercury is in Scorpio as I write and will fly through Sagittarius only to enter Capricorn on Christmas day 25th December, so there's more Soul searching coming up, as Venus retrogrades (21st December) in Capricorn and stays in that sign until 5th March 2014. Venus in Capricorn is cautious and circumspect, unlikely to follow impulses, especially when she's retrograde. Mars will be entering Libra on 8th December, and make some strong aspects to Venus (ruler of Libra) early next year. (I will write more about that soon). This shows that relationships will need some adjustments, as people feel the need to express boundaries.
Uranus in Aries has been retrograde for the last five months and goes direct this month. Uranus is the awakener and rebel which is with its 'mate' Pluto shaking up our whole system at present. (see article) But in retrograde it had its kid gloves on. Now things are going to start moving again, as it goes direct unlocking the truth, setting us free; and then it squares Mars (Christmas day) and Pluto which is potentially a bit of powder keg situation, but I believe the influence of Libra, the peace lover and diplomat, and the trine to Saturn in Scorpio could keep things from exploding, and pave the way for cooperation, and deep healing.

Spring Equinox ~ October 2013
Our Spring Equinox down here in the Southern Hemisphere coincided with the so-called ‘Harvest Moon’ late last week, so-named in the Northern Hemisphere, and associated with creation and new beginnings.
I think its safe to say, we are all sensing Spring rising up and warming the Earth, flora and fauna coming alive again after the chill of winter. Our faces lighting up with smiles and bodies relaxing into the soft warm air.
The chart for the Equinox has the moon exalted in Taurus, the nature lover, rewarded with Spring, and the sensual aromas of the warming earth and her buds of joy and new life. The Taurus Moon is opposing Saturn, North Node and Venus in Scorpio and triggers the big and rare Grand Trine who’s influence we are still experiencing. (Jupiter in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune conjunct Chiron in Pisces here’s what Melissa says ”This heavenly configuration which began to form in late June is one of the most important in our lifetime. A grand water trine is an aspect involving 3 or more planets in all 3 water signs which happens regularly. This Grand Trine is different because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime event! It involves Jupiter in Cancer (occurs once in 12 years), Saturn in Scorpio (every 30 years) and most importantly Neptune in Pisces which happens only every 164 years and is more significant because Neptune rules Pisces, so is most powerful in its own sign.”
We are still under the influence of this Grand-trine ….and the Taurus moon opposing one of its points creates a kite-pattern is a catalyst for some of the more potent karmic lessons of responsibility in relationships. The Sun in Libra certainly puts us on notice to engage in our personal relationships. And the truth is that all our relationships form pieces in the greater puzzle of humankind, and its getting more and more crucial that we find a way of living and sharing our beautiful planet peacefully, as the environmental cataclysms threaten food and water shortages; the revolutions and revolts in the Middle East, wipe out civilisations and their people, and the powerful testing of values invoked by the big Pluto/Uranus (blog) square whose transformational forces we are still subject too: huge awakenings and quickening brushing away the cobwebs of the past established status quo, jolted and shaken into a new paradigm.
This month Pluto goes direct after five months of being retrograde.
Pluto reminds us that all external annoyances “out there” are in fact internal parts of ourselves projected onto life’s outer screen. Again its about taking responsibility for this, as the mutual reception of Saturn in Pluto’s home sign of Scorpio reminds us. Responsibility: the ability to respond!
Mars went into Leo end August and will be there until 15th October, it will then move into Virgo, where it can implement in a practical way the fiery passions it may have visited whilst in Leo. It will oppose Neptune in Pisces for a few days (19th-20th Nov) which is an excellent time to move into one’s ideals, and visualise the world you dream of.
If you find yourself feeling dissipated or exhausted, spend time near the ocean, or even soaking in a pool or bath will help hold you with this transit.
Mercury in Scorpio goes retrograde on 21st October until November 11th. Its only in Western astrology really that retrograde Mercury has gained such bad press. Especially in Scorpio, you are being invited into the deep interior spaces of your psyche: dive in and take some time out, and you won’t be dogged by computers or phones going on the blink.
There is a lot of potential of healing deep old patterns, the programs we often hold on a cellular level in our bodies early in October as the quincunx of Saturn, to Uranus, and its trine to Chiron support this kind of DNA shifting.
On the 18th of October until Nov 16th we have another exact Pluto square Uranus hit, so there could be some more big movements in our institutions, as collective values keep changing and evolving.
Take good care, allow yourself to feel all the feelings, this way deep healings can happen. Get support if you have fear or anger to clear, as now is the time for big openings.
The Taurus/Scorpio full Moon on Friday (EST) is also a partial Lunar eclipse, and the first of three over the next few months. If its not cloudy in Melbourne, you should be able to see it sometime between 4-7am on Friday morning.
Lunar Eclipses are to do with emotional baggage and what to do with it. Especially this one in Scorpio. And ofcourse Saturn in Scorpio means that its old stuff, probably held on a cellular, structural level that needs addressing now.
Scorpio and Taurus are inclined to hoard and hide deeper feelings. But every now and then, Scorpio’s will purge and cull, and out everything comes. (watch out for any resentments or stored anger, which can come out as ‘poison’, thus the famous Scorpio ‘sting’.)
The build-up is augmented by the pre-emptive opposition the Moon is having with Mars, so there’s a lot of physical energy, and anger to be expressed, and Taurus loves everyone to love them, so they generally don’t show their anger until it’s all too much, and then they charge like ‘wounded bulls’. Luckily the trine to Neptune softens and dissipates the potential harshness of Mars and the Moon. The delicacy of Chiron’s softer aspects to Venus and Pluto will allow relationships to gently transmute and change, after the depths have been met and processed.
Lunar Eclipses are disruptive and are seeking to break things up so that there can be movement and evolution. Scorpio is all for looking beneath the surface of things, so it really is a great time to loosen up harbored feelings, allow the process of that to open new deeper connections more grounded in earthy-ness and soul.
Aries New Moon ~ 7:35pm EST 10th April
After their cozy sojourn with the Sun as it travelled through the middle degrees of Aries last week, Venus and Mars are now slowly moving into their separate rhythms. On the night of the new Moon, will start their individual dialogues with Lilith (the Dark Moon) for a day or so. People were telling me over the last week that even though it was supposed to be Autumn, they were feeling like it was Spring: frisky…that’s Venus conjunct Mars in Aries for you! Quite a sexual combo…which can also be ‘channeled’ as charmingly energetic, or zestily dynamic, or just wanting to dance and express delight and love through the body..
And now Lilith is sorting them both out, reminding them that feminine energy must be deeply respected and revered so that our Souls can experience the depths of our experiences here on our beautiful Mother Gaia. It can’t just be the froth ‘n foam of a kind of petulant sexiness this relationship towards the feminine, there must be a more profound connection to really ground and balance us in our bodies. And the New Moon wants us to reflect inwardly, so it is a perfect time to contemplate the polarities in ourselves, and whether we allow the deeper feminine in our natures to be nourished enough by the stillness of Earth.
Pluto is sextile Chiron and square the Moon, so the assistance is there, should you choose, to go in, and savor the beauty of the dark feminine, and allow any resistance or fear to move and vibrate, thus deepening your own connection to her.
Greetings astrology lovers
As I sit here and write I can still sense the pull of the full moon which happened about five hours ago in Pisces/Virgo. The gentle and yielding energy of Pisces/Virgo, which brings us all into our humility and sense of action for the common good.
Mercury is just pulling away from its conjunction to Mars in Pisces and Chiron still sitting in Pisces bringing waves of deep healing to all of us. The Mercury/Mars conjunction in Pisces has been giving us the ability to use the power of our imaginations to manifest a better world for ourselves and the collective. Pisces, the big heart-opener, the Compassionate one heals with its unconditional listening heart, our imaginations stoked by the other-wordly light of this can really have the most beautifully positive influence.
On the so-called negative side, it could be that we are more escapist than usual, avoiding issues and harboring our anger or resentment in wishy-washy quagmire of self-pity.
And yes I'm sure we all can have both those qualities within us! The challenge is to bring unconditional self-acceptance and compassion to ourselves as well as to others. And since Mars likes to be manifested physically, I recommend dancing, swimming, Yoga, Qigong or Aikido as a way to release physical energy from a cellular level, in the most Piscean way possible...ie with music, meditation or water.
Jupiter is now steadily moving forward through Gemini until the end of June when it goes into Cancer. This is such an expansive and opening time for Gemini's and Sagittarians, new vistas are opening, the horizon and beyond is revealing boundless possibilities, the challenge for Gems and Sagi's, is to stay grounded and not get overwhelmed by all the possibilities.
Saturn in Scorpio went retrograde a few days ago, which means that we need to discipline ourselves internally, and one of those discipline's is to not be self-critical. Its a good time to start some new self-improvement regime, and also a great time for de-cluttering not only our earthly possessions, but also outworn belief systems and thought patterns which no longer serve us. Saturn in Scorpio is lean and can be mean, but either way it wants us to be more streamlined in our actions.
I will certainly be de-cluttering my own household and workrooms in the coming week, as I am in the midst of moving. This article, shorter than usual, but I will write more thoughts about the luminaries and planets in the coming weeks.
In Pisces Mercury is conjunct Neptune and coming up to conjunct Mars ~ a great time to allow your imagination to expand into what you want..open your mind to the boundless mystery where so much exists the mind cannot usually begin to approach..and with Venus in Aquarius trine Jupiter forward now in Gemini: very inspired and expansive creativity, and an excellent time to allow your soul to be moved by music ~ dance!
Water will help you float in that too...let yourself be moved into heart space with loved ones..and tell people you love them! (Mercury!)
In the thick of the big Uranus square Pluto transit I spoke about in several previous articles, any of the faster moving planets which come into aspect with either of these two revolutionaries will act as a catalyst to release some of the energy of their interaction.
Uranus in Aries is daring us to express what is true for each of us, rather than conforming to the sleep-walk of conditioning and society’s expectations for the status quo. Pluto in Capricorn will help ground and stabilize the momentum of this into something for the common good. Pluto is always at its most potent when dealing with issues at the core of survival, and these are times in which we are closely examining survival issues for all life on our precious Earth.
Mercury squared Uranus on the 3rd of January, and will square Pluto on January 6th at 10 degrees Capricorn. Here is an opportunity for us to allow our minds to start interpreting the Zeitgeest: the flavour of the Uranus/Pluto square, finding words to express the nature of this transformational aspect. If there’s something you want to protest about then now is the time to write letters to the editors of media, join in with discussions on social media or blogs which move you: find your voice and help with the breaking up of old-world models which are not working for us as we move forward into these precarious times: the birth of a new humanity. If you were around in the mid-sixties you will remember how we took to the streets and generated a wake-up call of a whole generation. As the old systems breakdown their power is weakening, and the biggest changes are coming from the grass roots up.
On January 7th Mars in Aquarius will come into a square with Saturn in Scorpio. In traditional astrology this aspect was often described as a death or an ending of something. I still think that applies, and I also see it as the ‘editing’ transit. Time to cull all those unnecessary belief systems, ideas and objects which no longer serve your needs. Both Aquarius and Scorpio are able to be (or strive to be) minimalists, keeping things simple and streamlined. You’ll feel obstructed and frustrated at this time if you are holding onto outmoded obstacles of clutter from your past in the form of concepts or material surroundings.
The New Moon on the 11th January joins Mercury, Venus and Pluto in Capricorn.
The feminine energy of the New Moon in Capricorn, sheds a silvery feminine luminosity into the hard-working planets in Capricorn and hopefully assist in the process already underway for women’s rights. Venus will square Uranus on January 12th at 5 degrees of Capricorn/Aries and conjunct Pluto at 10 degrees Capricorn on January 16th. The world wide protesting for women’s rights as well as an end to brutal ancient traditions in the Middle East and especially in India lately will continue and gain momentum as the powerful square pushes for equality and justice for all of humanity.
The end of an era and the birth of a new age
Congratulations! If you are reading this it means you have survived ‘the end of the world’, as predicted by the Mayan calendar recordings ending on 12.12.12.
The full moon in Cancer/Capricorn (28th December 2012) heralds a month which draws us all into the fullness of our feelings and soul stirrings, it is a time for families and communities to link up as we look back at the last four or five weeks and realize we’ve been living on the edge of a collective sense that something is ending and something new is being born. For many of us it has been a very challenging year, stretching us to our limits, testing us for our deepest values and giving us the grit to question the status quo perhaps like we never have before.
The end of the Mayan calendars long count (5,125 years) at the 2012 solstice (21.12.12) coincides with the formal beginning of a New World Age according to the Maya, and coincides with what we have been calling ‘The Aquarian Age’, which we’ve been hearing about, reading about and singing about for the last forty years. (refer to the musical ‘Hair’)
There is a shift of the galactic alignment of the 2012 solstice Sun, which could be associated with a possible formal beginning of a new cycle of precession: the beginning of the Aquarian age. Pisces is considered the last sign/constellation of the zodiac, that makes Aquarius the next age via precession, as it goes backwards through the twelve signs. The galactic center alignment occurs once every approximately 26,000 years. This precessional cycle comes about because of the earth’s minor wobble on its axis.
The Age of Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the planet of shocking and revolutionary change and awakening. It is associated with freedom, social justice, brotherhood, a new humanity and new technology. It is the energy of those acting for the greater common good.
We are still in the midst, and will be until March 2015 of an enormous revolution of consciousness as Uranus in fiery and directional Aries and Pluto in ambitious and conservative Capricorn, square each other seven times (which is rare) over the next 16 months or so. (see article)
The radical questioning and challenging of many of our well established institutions, some of them the pillars of our infra-structure and financial systems, like Wall Street, as well the whole banking system. And in other parts of the world: the Middle Eastern dictatorships, as well as the Capitalist system, the Communist system, and more recently that unstoppable institution in the US, the NRA, as the US faces up to its Second Amendment and whether or not everyone should be so freely entitled to carry weapons designed to kill other human beings, and whether this is actually appropriate in this day and age.
The combination of Uranus and Pluto in these 'first quarter' squares is potentially the most profoundly transformational and far-reaching of all the planetary combinations.
Our collective consciousness is also more and more moving towards a merging of us into ‘One’, which has also been described as one of the characteristics of this new Aquarian age, as we deeply sense how linked we all are, in our brotherhood, facing up to the biggest collective challenge: the environment. The world wide web is joining us all to each other intimately as we discover that we can change things profoundly from the grass roots up, using this brilliant technology.
Neptune’s passage into Pisces (see article) and Saturn’s move into Scorpio, a harmonious trine relationship between these two, is like salve to our weathered brows, holding our Souls for the deepest healing (with Chiron in Pisces too).
We somehow know that there has to be a revolution in consciousness for the new version of humanity to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of several thousand years of conflict, intolerance and materialism. And may all our intelligence and humanitarianism now assist in this rebirth.
On the 5th of October this year, Saturn moved into Scorpio having spent the last two and a half years exalted in Libra (since November 2009).
In its journey through rational Libra, the ultimate diplomat and power-broker, (think Churchill), Saturn has been instrumental in crucial International relations, as the role of the United Nations came under question in many war-torn and conflicting countries. Also under the sharp investigative eye of father Saturn a questioning of the institution of marriage (Libra) in Western society (with same sex marriage becoming legal in some places and deeply dividing other places of governance).
Librans are breathing a sigh of relief as the great taskmaster leaves their charming, light-filled, heady domain, and tracks for the deep waters of Scorpio.
The great Reaper is going into the depths of our collective consciousness as it traverses the magnetic and powerfully transformative waters of Scorpio. It sounds ominous, the notion of Saturn’s ‘reality-check’ taking place in those very depths which we find so difficult to meet in others as well as ourselves. In truth it is a reassessment of some of our deeper values, and a questioning of what the collective soul now needs to face up to, amongst other issues: the finite resources and fragile environment of our planet.
The last time Saturn was in Scorpio (1982-85) we were faced with the AIDS epidemic, as sexual liberation which had been so heartily won in the sixties, (during the last dance between Uranus and Pluto) and then lived out in the mainstream of the seventies got firmly reined in by Saturn as we all experienced loss and grief even if not directly, everyone was powerfully moved to question subterranean prejudices and moral values, which eventually led us to heart-openings like we haven’t experienced before in our post modern world. (the ‘Dove’ aspect of Scorpio)
However this time we have a friendly sextile from Saturn to Pluto, as well as a trine to Neptune. Saturn and Pluto are also in mutual reception, (they are in each other’s signs) this can be seen as a collaboration between these two planets which can bring a profound healing through facing up to the limitation of our shared earthly resources, as well as the sorting out of the massive debts and imbalances. Even though this can’t happen painlessly, the productive sextile between the two powerful planets and their signs: Scorpio and Capricorn, could mean the outcomes will be sustainable in the longer term.
In the meantime Saturn’s trine to Neptune and Chiron in Pisces gives us the opportunity to face up to old wounds, relatively easily as the soft aspect means there is almost a natural and timely process in which we can look at our deepest fears, and transmute them into investigative curiosity (Pluto), and in the words of Byron Katie, ask “Is this really true?”.
Jupiter in its journey through Gemini, has just gone retrograde and will go forward again at the end of January 2013. This in itself is not unusual, it does so every year, but I see it as helpful at this time of internal journeying and the quest for realistic values, collectively and personally, as we begin to navigate the deep waters of Scorpio and her quest for transformation, with Saturn’s austere scrutinizing ways as our modis operandi.
On another note of change, (less long term, but nevertheless important) Mars went into Sagittarius, (for the next six weeks), so I recommend processing the internal quest by keeping physically active, expanding boundaries, strengthening the body to promote energetic cellular activity so as to keep pace with the changes for this new world we are moving into.
For Scorpio natives or for those who have planets in Scorpio, use this next two and a half years as a time to take stock. Call upon your sword of discernment and de-clutter your life of material things, but also of friends or acquaintanceships which don’t support you positively, in this important growth period. Look after your skin, bones and teeth (Saturn), take care of the older people in your life, and keep an eye on assets you have invested with other people.
