Happy Mother's Day 2017
“Oh we don’t take much notice of mother’s day in our family”….
This is what I often say or find myself thinking as the time approaches when you cannot go anywhere without having your senses bombarded with advertisers tugging at your heart-strings trying to persuade you to invest in their products or services for your beloved, or not so beloved mother.
People talk about how commercial mother's day is. Restaurants are booked months in advance and traffic goes into gridlock as families gather to honour and celebrate their mothers and grandmothers.
Unfortunately not very often from a genuine place of gratitude and love, but from a place of obligation and responsibility.
How has this come about?
Surely mothers deserve acknowledgement and gratitude?
Your mother or original carer is the person who taught you about love. This led to your sense of self-worth, and taught you how to give and receive love.
Your mother’s love and care taught you about looking after yourself and your loved ones. Your mother laid the foundation of how you are with yourself in the world.
In that first few years nearly every cell in her body, every neuron in your mother’s consciousness was taken up with your needs, making sure you were fed, warm, safe, dry, clean and held. She barely had a moment to take care of her own needs.
Ofcourse these are generalizations, because everyone has their own unique history with their mothers.
I find myself wincing when I ask a woman: “what do you do?” and they answer:
“Oh, I’m just a mother”.
‘The mother-child relationship is paradoxical and, in a sense, tragic. It requires the most intense love on the mother's side, yet this very love must help the child grow away from the mother, and to become fully independent.’ Eric Fromm
Mother’s even take themselves for granted and undervalue the deep complexity of their role. But I believe that this is the most important job of all. This is the foundation of how we are all going to perceive life, love, community, nourishment and our earth.
Our earth who unconditionally feeds and nourishes all life, and continues to do so, even though we plunder, bomb, trash, and clear her, stabbing deeply into her depths to acquire her ancient fossils for our frantic greed and materialism, always looking for identification in what is outside of ourselves, and giving that more value than inner Beingness, Essence our true spiritual nourishment, which is Love.
Maybe our mothers and their mothers, and their mothers were so busy with survival that they forgot this, and only passed on the belief system that survival is the only gig and
that the biological imperative of life on earth, means we are separate from each other and in competition with all of life to survive as individuals or tribes.
We are a dysfunctional species! Something is broken when you believe that love only comes in the guise of food or material needs. We have somehow mostly forgotten that we are all aspects of Oneness, the Divine, Light, God or whatever you want to call it. Unfortunately that knowing has been boxed up and tethered to conditions and rules; sliced and processed beyond recognition in the way we live and bring up our young.
To begin with, we need to make a deep bow of gratitude and reverence for Mother everyday. Not just our own mother’s or the mothers of our spouses on mothers day.
But for the very symbol of motherhood: the great Mother in all of us, the sacred feminine aspect of our psyche’s, and our great Gaia who feeds our bodies generation after generation.
The mothering instinct is in all of life. The newly arrived get taken into the arms of mothers and carers instinctively, whether it’s the life that gave birth or not, we all have an imperative to tend to the vulnerable and fragile in our world.
Even trees stay connected psychically to their shootlings it has now been proven.
(book: 'The Hidden Life of Trees' ~ Peter Wohlleben)
For the last three or four thousand years we have become disconnected from the deep feminine aspect of our humanness.
The great Goddess who is now emerging again in her full glory, radiant abundance and generous gift of life; she is flowering again after millennia of being sidelined and repressed.
There is still a lot of work to do.
But we can all do our little bit by noticing her, and acknowledging her in each and every life form on earth.
Notice the miraculous, the awesome beauty in nature, in each other and all life.
Deep bow for the Great Mother
Today's Supermoon falls into Gemini and shows us mixed messages, which is ofcourse typical Gemini fare.
The Sun in Sagittarius has Saturn approaching it, only three degrees away, and the ruler of Gemini, Mercury, is moving up closer to Pluto in Capricorn. Deeper issues and projections are likely to cloud your mind with self-doubt and the need to be heard from your depths. The usual ebullience one could expect from Sagittarius and Gemini doesn't hold for long, and might only manifest in the fleeting expressions of this season's mandatory social interactions.
The last few days have been an intense time of evolutionary forces; deep grief, waves of anger and the truth wanting to come up for light, to be embraced, met and/or healed. Taking responsibility, looking in the mirror and owning our stories requires us to pause, reflect, take a moment because as we dive deeper into our inner worlds like this it means we need to bring more compassion to ourselves and thus to everyone else around us. We are more likely than ever to miscommunicate or misunderstand one another, and so a lot of awareness needs to be maintained.
We must take a moment to slow down our reactions and responses, and even pause before judging or acting at present. Mars on the ascendant of the moon chart means we need to move our bodies. So if you feel like the pressure of pausing and slowing down is too much, move your body, either in dance, Yoga, walking or whatever other spritiual practice you have which envolves moving the body.
This is a short article just to let you know that I'm still tuning in and wanting to share my insights.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a very happy and safe holiday season and an excellent 2017.
I am around for readings or sessions should you wish to explore deeper or get an overview of your year ahead.

This month's penumbral Lunar Eclipse chart is more-or-less what is known as a 'see-saw' formation, with a 'stellium' (five planets or more in one sign) in Virgo. The combination of these two quite intense patterns very often produces some turbulence and reconfigurations within the status quo.
The stellium in Virgo of: the Vertex (a mathematical point) the Sun, Transpluto, Moon's North Node, Venus, Path of Fortune (also a mathematical point), Mercury, and Jupiter (in its last few weeks of Virgo, it enters Libra on September 10th) forms multi layered conglomeration of energies which could effect day-to-day events, some of them could have long term effects (Transpluto and Moon's North Node). The stellium opposes Neptune which could deliver a softening effect, which could dissipate the intensity.
It is a complex moment in the scheme of things. Saturn and Mars are conjunct and culminating at the
Sagittarian Midheaven, which suggests there could be some abrupt endings and completions of projects or plans. Frustrations and interruptions to do with goals and the trajectory of philosophical or altruistic ideals is also quite possible. If the superfluous can be edited out, and the priorities carved out from the remainder, the Saturn/Mars conjunction can work really well for streamlining any over-ambitious schemes.
Lunar Eclipses are nearly always about doing a spring clean on emotional baggage, the accumulation of unprocessed emotional matter which you didn't get time or didn't know how to process at the time.
The Aquarian moon, gives you some detachment and the gift of being able to get an overview of your life, and not get caught up in the details. Aquarius is quite at home with culling those things that don't serve the greater good, and on a personal level this can really help you be more rational and impartial.
Just a short report this time, as I slowly get back into the swing of writing again.
Would love any feedback and comments ofcourse.
Our sea and tree change
My partner Rory and I decided to finally make the move we had been talking about for years. I found my whole being longing to be nearer to nature, so I could be held by the Earth more closely and be nourished, and form a more intimate relationship with her. I have especially found this necessary since I have been doing more readings, session work and workshops. I have to draw from such a deep place in my 'nature', and it needs to be replenished from a much deeper place.
I have had the planet Saturn in Sagittarius opposing my Gemini Sun on-an-off for the last few months, and this transit will be influencing me until the end of the year. Last time this happened was when I did a big location change too. I moved from Adelaide to Melbourne, thirty years ago. There were challenges and wounds which came about because of that move, which I've been compelled to review and heal, in the last year, before I get what needs to be felt, learned and taken on board for this Saturn opposition. In that last opposition thirty years ago I built the foundations of my business: Candy Spender Jewels, some of you may not be aware that I am also an artist and jewellery designer/assembler (as I call myself).
One of the side-effects has been that my usual fiery vitality and enthusiasm has been curbed and I feel quite exhausted and lack-lustre at times. Living near the coast and in amongst huge old gum trees, with their colourful and noisy parrot populations, and the soft round sea air in the mornings instead of the fumes from rush-hour traffic feels like heaven to me. And I am making my life here in the Mornington Peninsula now, and it feels really right and that I'm on track.
The recent Lunar and Solar eclipses in March both had a huge affect on my chart, between them I was 'all shook up', as ofcourse any kind of moving house is stressful and huge, but this one was more than a house move, it was also a huge change of life-style. Interpreting the eclipses as well as I could for myself gave me so much confirmation and spelled out clearly what my big change was about. It really is a change of vibration and frequency, and I can already feel myself expanding into the spaces.
I still come into Melbourne two days a week to do tarot readings at Spellbox (Thursdays and Fridays 10:30-6pm). But I am also doing readings using Skype, phone or FaceTime. So far this is working really well.
I will also find some sort of space in Melbourne or near where I live in Crib Point now, where I can do face-to-face readings and session work, stay tuned!
The Lunar Eclipse-Supermoon today is a perfect opportunity to cleanse and charge your crystal collection.
After clearing them all under running water, I put my whole crystal 'family' out last night, and burnt Palo Santo (sacred South American wood for clearing) around them as a means of protecting them as well. I leave them outside for the full 24 hours around the time of the full moon.
My crystals are my allies in the healing sessions I do, whether it's a tarot reading, Reiki, vibrational healing, spiritual guidance, meditation and guided journeying, or Family Constellation work, I use them as grounding Earthy allies and amplifiers.
I've had some of them for more than thirty years, and they are my companions in the journey.
This year's so-called Harvest Moon (full moon closest to the Autumn equinox), is a blood moon and the biggest Lunar eclipse for the year, as well as that it is a Supermoon; and the last of a lunar tetrad, Whew!
Lilith, Juno and the Moon's nodes are also involved with the eclipse, and feels to me like a lot is happening with feminine consciousness.
The Moon's nodes are largely about the Soul's growth, its journey through each life-time, the unresolved issues it brings to gain experience for, and the resolved and understood issues it brings to enlighten others and make its contribution towards expanding universal consciousness.
Lilith, (and I think this might be a different body to what people are calling the 'Dark Moon', but I admit that I haven't investigated this thoroughly enough to be sure.) in m y understanding is a fairly recently discovered asteroid, and is associated with the original face of woman, independent of man. She was Eve's foil, and Adam's equal. The first suffragette, the liberated woman, wildly in her power and at home in her individuation.
She represents the fierce feminine who's main trajectory is not unlike Kali's message from Durga, to make sure we have a decent home for the ensuing generations. Whereas Eve supported Adam in all his masculine glory, pandering to the power of masculine Light and individuality. Lilith made sure there could be a continuum for life on the great Mother, Earth, and not just a flashing of ego's and the defending of domains on an everyday basis.
Juno is also part of this triumvirate, she takes care of the ambience, the subtle transmitter of flow for change and transformation. Her gentle but powerful presence facilitates the more obvious frequencies present here.
So Lilith, Juno and the Nodes' conjunct the Sun is bringing forth a deeper consciousness of how we are all inextricably linked to each other in our lives and and in the survival of life on Earth as we know it. The Great Mother is making her presence felt in unprecedented ways.
As well as all of this we have Mercury retrograde, which portends seeing things from a deeper perspective, not just the commerce of ideas, facts and information, but the silent unspoken connection we have to each other. Retrograde Mercury takes awareness beyond the surface, into the depths where subliminal, and subtextual exchanges can happen, furnishing the psyche with symbols and images, the archetypal language of the universal.
I have heard from many people that they are either experiencing ecstatic and harmonious well-being or that the pressure of their everyday existence is almost beyond endurance, and some are rollercoastering between the two extremes.
In my own life and work I sense that there is a quickening of frequencies and that we are being pushed to our limits in the expression of all we must do to be here. Our nervous systems are being tuned to the finest and yet the most robust of vibrations, laying the groundwork for us to deliver and manifest a whole new Earth, the one that Eckhart Tolle talks about so eloquently in his book: 'The New Earth'.
The important challenge is to not let fear take-over and allow yourself to be swamped in the tentacles of its darkness and contraction, but to keep bringing yourself into the present and filling your heart with gratitude at what you do have in your life. I know this sounds lke a cliché, but it really works.
It is essential for your physical, mental, psychic and spiritual health to have some form of daily practice where you take the space to empty your mind of the cacophany of thoughts and streams of emotion, and rest in the Great Natural Peace of your beingness.
Time with nature, quiet time..everyday, even if it's only for 5 minutes!
Namaskar and blessings
The first of three so-called super moons will happen on Sunday morning 30th August 2015 (AUEST).
The chart for this first one shows quite intense groupings of the planets and asteroids opposing each other in what is nearly what I would call a 'see-saw' pattern. I have already heard people talking about feelings of dizziness and light-headed moments.
The conjunctions between the Sun and Jupiter in early Virgo; Venus and Mars conjunct in Leo; and the exact conjunction occurring between the North Node and Mercury in Libra indicate an emphasis on personal enquiry and a potentially creative physical expression of deeper emotions and soul patterning (DNA as well). An opportunity to expand into everything you're here to be, and the communication of that. At the moment of the full-moon the Vertex will be conjunction the moon, meaning that this soul 'unfoldment' is in alignment with evolution and expanded consciousness.
I recommend recording any dreams or revelations you may have during the next few days, as their significance will become clearer in retrospect.
Supermoon is the unofficial term for when the full moon cycle coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth during its oval-shaped orbit. The moon appears slightly larger than normal in the sky and can make for a spectacular view.
The technical term is full moon perigee. Perigee is when the moon is closest to the Earth, as opposed to apogee, which is when it’s the farthest.
September 28 and October 27 will also fall under this definition, with September’s full moon being the largest of the three, as well as a total lunar eclipse, or “blood moon". (I will write about that later)
A blue storm, describes very well the feeling so many people have been having about their lives.
So many changes, some of them awakenings which were expected and unexpected.
If my own life is testament to how busy everything has felt, I am able excuse myself for not writing about it all here.
We're nearly half-way through 2015 and it feels like several years have passed since I last wrote something here. And yet it also feels like just a few days ago. Its like time is stretching and shrinking to be whatever our consciousness is wanting it to be. (albeit often unconscious!)
The last of the Uranus/Pluto square happened in the midst of several eclipses, solar and lunar. The last three or four months have been very intense, globally and needless-to-say, in people's personal lives as well. Its like we're all being pushed beyond boundaries we thought we'd never have to encounter, and then seeing and experiencing that we're actually a lot stronger than we thought, and that the strength comes from how much of our vulnerability we're prepared to meet in ourselves and others.
By now you're gathering that I am not giving you a detailed astrological breakdown of what is happening in the cosmos.
There are plenty of great descriptions on the web about what is happening is astrological realms.
Here are a few I recommend:
I am doing my best to use my time in a way that makes my heart feel alive, and full. I find that when I'm on track with this, I feel my heart swelling with joy and an expansive feeling of light and Spirit. This happens when I am bringing what my best offering is, to assist as much as I am able in this grand evolution/revolution of consciousness we find ourselves in at present. I stay tuned to world affairs with awareness and passion. But my best work is with individuals in the sessions I offer, and within my classes and workshops.
I feel that this is where I've seen the biggest transformations.
Astrology is great as a tool and language, it gives us an excellent map and guide for where we find ourselves in our own lives and as a collective. But at this time I feel like its the Heart that needs to be engaged more than the mind. Our minds are already overloaded with information.
What Life-on- Earth needs from us now is Love, willingness, courage and authenticity.
All qualities that are generated from the heart.
Please feel free to respond and comment :)
Greetings fellow travellers, Namasté.
In my last newsletter for the year I think you will agree with me, when I say ‘whew’, what a roller-coaster ride 2014 has been!
The Uranus/Pluto square has certainly shaken us all up, and opened up new possibilities as the old structures no longer viable fall away and new paradigms feed into our collective consciousness, broadening our vision of possibilities and colouring our longing for a world where we can all thrive and evolve, supported by one another with awareness and Heart.
This notion can easily be supported by Mars’ entry into Aquarius on December 5th (AuEST), for the first time in two years. Group action based on humanitarian concepts of brotherhood. ‘We all in this together’, is a typically Aquarian viewpoint and having Mars to motivate this direction could be just what the doctor ordered. This will be supported by Jupiter, which is still in generous and heartful Leo, and could bode well for mass consciousness moving together in a positive trajectory for our future as a species on this beautiful generous planet, our mother Earth.
The full-moon on December the 6th in Gemini/Sagittarius. The Sun is flanked or contained by Mercury and Venus, which gives me the sense that the festivities will be very social and people will enjoy communicating and passing on information. Sagittarius’ ruler, Jupiter is still in Leo and at the time of the full-moon in the first house, (AuEST) which augers well for laughter and optimism.
We end the year with Saturn moving into Sagittarius on Christmas eve, 24th of December.
Most Scorpio’s I know are breathing a sigh of relief, many have had to face their deepest fears and self-criticisms, and some of them are proud of the new levels of discipline and effective action they have been able to achieve with the help of Saturn, the Lord of the material world and ‘father Time’.
Saturn moves into Sagittarius for the first time in thirty years, and will be quite different. Sagittarius, the expansive and courageous adventurer, who brings much positivity and humour to the rest of us when things seem to get stuck.
Now Saturn will influence Saggie’s to cull away the excesses, the hype of living in adventure-land, and possibly even come down to earth and ground some of those ideals and aspirations. There is the possibility of discovering that there is actually more freedom when a structure has been upheld or implemented. Sagittarians probably won’t like to hear this, unless they are mature and willing to take responsibility as they inspire the rest of with their idealist and philanthropic outlook. Its time to walk-the-talk!
In 2015 we are coming to the end of the Uranus/Pluto square, and very often one feels the transits more powerfully as they conclude. The last connection between these to transformers is in February 2015. Things could get a last big shake-up, to bring down the last components of an old world which has kept us from moving forward into what Eckhart Tolle calls ‘The New Earth’.
I will write more about this in January to remind you that everything changes!
Wishing each and everyone of you a marvellous and safe holiday season, and a harmonious and productive 2015.
